Karen founded AHA! Studio for Integrated Therapies LLC to expand her 20 year vision of creating an arts in psychotherapy private practice where women, children, and families can find emotional support. Our growing community of holistic practitioners believe that there is Hope for everyone who is struggling on their journey to emotional health, Wholeness and well being.
Karen has always been passionate about helping those who are suffering or in need. As a child, Karen dreamed of being a veterinarian but then found the beauty of healing the human spirit through exposure to sibling play therapy. Through the use of art, movement games, and play (and little green army men!), sibling conflict transformed into play and play lead to healing – not through talking about core differences but by experiencing them in the moment and creatively working through them!
Supported by a family who believed we should all be free to “find what we love to do and create the life we want to live by doing it,” Karen found becoming a dance movement therapist and licensed counselor to be the ideal expression of her natural gifts – where intellectual curiosity and playful creativity can lead to a depth of insight that allows us each to truly “Know thyself!”
In her work with children and families, Karen embraces the three-phase healing journey. First she enters the world of the child, discovers the developmental roots of struggle, and helps the child build strengths and skills to break through the difficulty. Next she helps the parents understand and come to terms with what is happening. Finally, she helps the whole family create lasting change, accept what cannot be changed, and love the journey toward growth and wholeness!
Karen views her life’s work as both a blessing and a calling – one that merged Karen’s love of moving and playing with her passion for depth psychology and her natural compassion for the human journey to find purpose and belonging.
